Culture Fest
On 6 November, the international cultural day—ELTE BTK Culture Fest: Kaleidoscope of Cultures—was held for the second time at the Faculty of Humanities. The event, first launched in the spring with the intention of creating a tradition, was organized once again with the cooperation of the ELTE BTK International Relations Office, the Faculty Students’ Union (HÖK), the faculty branch of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), and the International Student Advisory Committee (ISAC). This year, the cultural event was hosted in a new venue, the beautiful Faculty Council Hall, where participants were welcomed by Orsolya Réthelyi, the Vice-Dean for International Affairs, together with the main organizers, Lilla Gilián and Veronika Vida.
At the event, ELTE students from countries such as China, Egypt, Georgia, India, and the Netherlands presented their national cultures, foods, or traditional clothing. Representatives from Russia, Senegal, Ukraine, and Vietnam were also present with their own vibrant display tables. Alongside the students of various nations, the Confucius Institute, the Students’ Union, ESN, and ISAC were also represented with individual exhibitions.

In addition to the mini-exhibitions, a major highlight of the festival was the series of colourful and engaging performances. The stage program began with classical and modern pieces performed by The SEAS Singers choir of the Institute of English and American Studies, followed by the NEDERzang choir of the Department of Dutch Studies. Next, talented students of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music—Soma Suhai and Ãgoston Szendi—took the spotlight. Both former ELTE students entertained the audience with brilliant guitar performances.

After the Hungarian performers, our Chinese students took the stage: students of the Institute for Art Communication and Music—Zhou Menglan, Zhang Peng, Fu Anran, and Liu Yichen—enchanted the audience with traditional Chinese folk songs, followed by Hang Zhigao performing on the uniquely special bamboo flute. Liu Yonghan, a student of the Institute for Art Theory and Media Studies, introduced the audience to a traditional Chinese string instrument (GuZheng).

After China, the audience was taken to South America through the colourful traditional Ecuadorian dance of Vanessa Gabriela Cabrera Cárdenas, and then back to the Far East with the dynamic Indian dance of Akash Mishra and Aparna Jha. The series of international folk performances also featured the highly successful show of the ELTE folk dance ensemble.

The diverse program of performances concluded with the impressive production of the choir of the Department of Russian Language and Literature, who closed the event with a Russian folk dance performance that became highly interactive by involving the braver members of the audience.
The organizers surprised the performers with small gifts, and after the building closed, the program ended with an after-party organized by the Faculty Students’ Union.
